Location

Villa La Pergola is located in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, only about 25km away from Florence.

Being so conveniently located opens a world of things to do and places to visit. For example, nearby you can find typical restaurants, from the most traditional to the most sophisticated. One of which is Enoteca Pinchiorri in via Ghibellina, which offers an elegant blend of contemporary design and Tuscan paintings of the nineteenth century, in addition to it’s sophisticated environment it also offers a very fine cuisine http://enotecapinchiorri.it.

Walking through the center of Florence, everywhere you look you are surrounded by the Renaissance history of the city, home to artistic and architectural masterpieces.

Among the most iconic places is the Cathedral – Il Duomo which was designed by Brunelleschi and Giotto, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria and the Uffizi Gallery, where you can find on display works by excellent artists such as Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci http://www.uffizi.com.

At a bit more than an hour there is the renowned town of Greve in Chianti, one of the most popular and characteristic towns of the Chianti region.

The main piazza is fronted by numerous medieval aged buildings, including the 11th century Propositura di Santa Croce, where you can find the fresco of the Madonna col Bambino that dates back to the 14th century.

The Chianti region is famous all over the world for the marvellous climate and the welcoming attitude of the people. In fact, Chianti is the most renowned area of Tuscany for the historic wineries, art, landscape, food and atmosphere, where famous actors, musicians, royals and important people decided to have their homes.

Greve in Chianti is one of the most desirable locations in all of Chianti and it is known as the “gateway” into the Chianti region. This lively town is famous for its particularly shaped square that has been a market place for the castles and walled villages in the surroundings since the Middle Ages. The square has a triangular shape and large porticos along three sides that protect from sun and rain while shopping. In the center stands the bronze statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano, explorer that discovered the Bay of New York. At the top of the square stands the Church of Santa Croce, originally a medieval church remodeled according to Renaissance Revival architectural style, displays a few precious works of sacred art including the triptych depicting Madonna and Saints by Bicci di Lorenzo.

Greve presents many different places where you can taste Chianti wine and enjoy local food. The porticos host many workshops, wine bars and restaurants. One that requires mention is the Antica Macelleria Falorni (http://www.falorni.it) a historical butcher shop that sells only typical products produced in Chianti. Just a few steps away stands the Wine Museum which we recommend visiting.

The whole area of Chianti in Tuscany is also renowned for the many wine tasting opportunities offered. Wine tastings have to be experienced, they are great opportunities to experience one of the most peculiar Tuscan aspect such as all its prestigious wines. Some suggestion on where to go for this are Castello di Ama in Lecchi in Chianti http://www.castellodiama.com, Fontodi Winery in Panzano in Chianti http://www.fontodi.com, right in Greve in Chianti we suggest you to go to Querciabella http://www.querciabella.com and, last but not least, in San Casciano in Val di Pesa there is the famous and renowned Cantina Antinori http://antinorichianticlassico.it/en.
