Further receptive structures include a restaurant, two professional kitchens, a tasting room, and a veranda with outdoor seating for 80 guests.

The production of wine amounts to around 21.000 bottles a year and the olive groves produce around 1.500 liters of Tuscan IGP olive oil a year.

Location

Biological Estate is a charming estate at a few kilometers of the enchanting town of Cortona. The city is a typical historical Italian town located on a hilltop, where one can enjoy in the splendid panoramic views of Lake Trasimeno and the surrounding valley.

Cortona is ideal for those passionate about history and culture and an authentic location for someone to immerse themselves in Italian life just as Frances Mayes represents in both her bestseller and famous film Under The Tuscan Sun.  Tourists today still flock to Villa Bramasole to take a peek at the villa which inspired the American author to write her book. The University of Georgia also houses their study abroad campus in Cortona due to the city’s strong appeal towards foreigners.

Cortona has an interesting history as the city dates back to Etruscan and Roman civilizations. Visitors can spend the day in the Museo dell’Accademia Etrusca,  the National Archaeological Park of Cortona, visit the Duomo and other various churches to learn about Cortona’s significant status throughout the Middle Ages. There are also small artisanal shops where one can purchase hand made products and local gastronomical items.

Arezzo is another medieval town famous for housing paintings from Vasari and Petrarca. Arezzo is also the home of the famous medieval jousting festival La Giostra del Saracino.

Description in Detail

Biological Estate is a lovely estate located in the Arezzo countryside, surrounded by green hills, vineyards and olive groves. Located a few kilometers away from the town of Castiglion Fiorentino and less than 10km from the vibrant and lively Etruscan town of Cortona. The estate is currently a producer of Biodynamic wine and olive oil, besides a receptive structure with 6 guest apartments and a restaurant. Its location is very appealing to guests as it is the perfect starting point for day trips in beautiful places nearby like Pienza, Montepulciano, Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, and Assisi.

The property was originally built at the end of the 19th century and it has undergone several restorations over the years, the most recent being in 2011.

The total surface of the liveable area amounts to more than 1000 m2 (11.000 sqft). It consists of the main villa and two separate buildings for the apartments used as an agriturismo.

The graceful main villa is 240m2 (2.600 sq ft) divided into 3 floors. The focal point of the villa is the living room with a large fireplace and a rustic wood-burning stove. There is also a big kitchen with dining area, an office area, 4 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms.

In the two outbuildings, there are 6 beautifully furnished apartments with a total of 9 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms amounting to a total of 350m2 (3.770 sq ft). There are 2 studio apartments, 1 loft apartment, 1 apartment with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and 1 apartment with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Every apartment has its own bathroom and kitchen/kitchenette and they are all surrounded by the property’s beautiful garden. The interiors are rustic with typical Tuscan features such as wooden beams ceilings, stone staircases, terracotta tiles, and arches.

The gardens around the property are well maintained and contain a rich balance between woods, lawns, flowerbeds and the more productive part of the estate. Besides the surrounding vineyard and olive groves, there is also a lovely vegetable garden and a chicken coop. The property is enriched with a swimming pool surrounded by olive trees and with a stunning view of the Valdichiana valley and the Medieval Castle of Montecchio.

The property is enriched with a restaurant, two professional kitchens, a tasting room, and a veranda with outdoor seating for 80 guests. A third separate ambient, small but very pretty and , restored, can potentially be turned into a gym or a relax-area. The most important feature of the Biological Estate is its large wine cellar, which is the real heart of the estate.

The property includes almost 16 ha (40 acres) of land, 10 ha (25 acres) of which dedicated to very productive vineyards and olive groves. The production of wine amounts to around 21.000 bottles a year and the olive groves produce around 1.500 liters of Tuscan IGP olive oil a year. The production has been certified as Organic since 1994, and since 2004 the production is officially Biodynamic. There are various annexes and sheds present on the property that are dedicated to the agricultural part of the estate: for production, storage, maintenance, farming equipment and of course the restaurant and tasting rooms for the sale of the products.

The estate tries to be as independent as possible in terms of its energy use. A photovoltaic system and solar panels are installed in 2011, which cover most of its energy use. Due to its efforts in organic farming, energy use etc.

This lovely estate is perfect for anybody who is interested in its balanced combination of Biodynamic Wine and Olive oil production and hospitality functions.
