Description in Detail
Castello Fiorentino is a medieval castle dating back to the 13th century, roughly a 40 minutes-drive from Florence. Despite its age, the castle has been very well preserved and boasts charming interiors to complement the grand exterior. The property still holds ancient archives of important historical figures and memorabilia of both the Renaissance and World War I. Its second-century tower dominates the valley over which its lies, looking over the surrounding farmland and typically beautiful Tuscan landscape.
The castle residence is surrounded by 150 hectares of the Tuscan countryside, used for the production of 6 fine wines and 2 award-winning olive oils, as well as arable farmland and woodland. Castello Fiorentino combines the old with the new, using traditional methods for production, with an innovative market philosophy, establishing territorial identity to their produce.
The tools for a winemaking venture are all present; grapes can be picked on the 40 hectares of vineyards, stored in the 243 m2 cellar, and sold on-site. 300,000 bottles of wine are produced roughly every year. The 40 hectares of vineyard are comprised mainly of Sangiovese grapes, additionally, there are also Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, Syrah, Malbec, Canaiolo, Viognier, and Trebbiano grapes. Chianti Colli Fiorentini wines have personality and character, consisting mainly of Sangiovese and Colorino grapes. The current owner ventured out in 1997, adding Merlot, Petite Verdot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec grapes.
The 6 functioning hectares of olive groves are just as fruitful, producing 5 tonnes of olives per year. There are two types of olive oil produced here, due to the variety of olives, il Frantoiano, il Moraiolo, il Leccino, il Pendolino. Both types of oil, including a ‘Laudemio’, have won many awards.
Accommodation for staff can be provided in the numerous outhouses and restored farmhouses away from the property. These rural buildings have maintained their aesthetics and are safe and convenient.
This property is the wine-lovers fantasy, producing 6 of the highest quality authentic Tuscan wines, in the backdrop of an idyllic landscape with beautiful rolling hills. Castello Fiorentino provides an escape to the country to explore one’s passion for wine, whilst being just a short car journey from Florence.
