We’ve all heard about the Michelin Guide, with its magnificent restaurants all over the world. Here in Tuscany, there are many options to try, and enjoy the best quality of food that only Tuscany can offer.

The Michelin Guide is a series of annual restaurant guide books published by the French company Michelin for over 100’s of years in more than a dozen countries. The guide is followed more notably for high quality restaurants and is a trusted go-to for seekers of authentic fine dining.

Below is the criteria for their three star ranking system:

  • one star: “A very good restaurant in its category” (“Une très bonne table dans sa catégorie”)
  • two stars: “Excellent cooking, worth a tour” (“Table excellente, mérite un détour”)
  • three stars: “Exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey” (“Une des meilleures tables, vaut le voyage”).

According to the 2016 edition guide for Italy, Tuscany has: one 3-starred and four 2-starred restaurants, followed by a long list of twenty four 1-starred restaurants.
